Privacy Policy

Applies to all applications published by Marcus Labs on Google Play.

Short Version

  • Current Marcus Labs apps are free and do not serve third-party ads.
  • Most personal app data is kept on your device unless a feature clearly needs sync, analytics, or support contact.
  • App-specific notices may add details where an individual feature needs them.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies to all mobile applications ("Apps") developed and published by Marcus Labs ("we", "our", or "us") on the Google Play Store. It explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the rights you have over your data.

Different Apps in our portfolio may collect different types of data depending on their features. Where an App collects data in a way that differs from or supplements this policy, an App-specific privacy notice will be provided within that App or on its Play Store listing. This policy sets the baseline for all Marcus Labs applications.

By downloading or using any Marcus Labs App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on the features of each individual App. The categories below represent the full range of data types that any Marcus Labs App may collect.

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account registration details, such as name, email address, username, and password, only in Apps that require accounts.
  • User-generated content such as notes, journal entries, event titles, or other text you type into an App.
  • Profile information or preferences you configure within an App.
  • Messages or information you submit when contacting our support team.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information, including device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.
  • App usage data, including features used, session duration, screens visited, crash reports, and error logs.
  • Network information, including IP address and internet connection type.
  • Resettable advertising identifiers, including Google Advertising ID, only in Apps that serve advertisements.

2.3 Location Data

Some Apps may request access to your device location, either precise or approximate, to deliver location-relevant features. We will always request your explicit permission before accessing location data. You may deny or revoke location access at any time through your Android device settings without affecting core App functionality where location is not essential.

2.4 Data Stored Only on Your Device

Some Apps are designed to operate fully offline. In those Apps, all user data is stored locally on your device using on-device databases, such as SQLite or Room, and is never transmitted to our servers. The relevant App-specific privacy notice will confirm this where applicable.

2.5 Data We Do Not Collect Across Any App

  • Payment card numbers or banking details. Any in-app purchases are processed entirely by Google Play.
  • Passwords in plain text.
  • Social Security numbers, government-issued ID numbers, or biometric data.
  • Private communications such as emails, SMS, or messages from other apps.

3. How We Use Information

3.1 To Provide and Operate the Apps

  • Deliver the features and functionality of each App.
  • Save your preferences and settings.
  • Sync data across devices where that feature is offered.
  • Display your content, such as notes or events, correctly within the App.

3.2 To Improve Our Apps

  • Analyze crash reports and error logs to identify and fix bugs.
  • Understand how features are used in aggregate to guide product decisions.
  • Test and validate new features before wider release.

3.3 Advertising, If Introduced

The current Marcus Labs apps promoted on this website do not serve third-party advertisements. If a future App introduces advertising, we or our advertising partners may use the Google Advertising ID and general usage data to serve ads only after this is clearly disclosed in the relevant App's Play Store Data Safety section and any App-specific privacy notice.

If an App has a paid version, that version will not serve third-party advertisements unless the App-specific notice says otherwise.

3.4 To Communicate With You

  • Respond to support requests or feedback you submit.
  • Send service-related notices, such as policy updates, where you have provided an email address.

3.5 To Comply With Legal Obligations

  • Respond to lawful requests from law enforcement or regulatory authorities.
  • Protect the rights and safety of Marcus Labs and our users.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

4.1 We Do Not Sell Your Personal Data

Marcus Labs does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for their own marketing purposes.

4.2 Third-Party Service Providers

We may share data with trusted third-party vendors who assist us in operating our Apps. These providers are contractually obligated to use your data only to perform services on our behalf and in accordance with this policy. Examples include:

  • Analytics providers, such as Firebase Analytics or Google Analytics for Firebase, to understand aggregate usage patterns.
  • Crash reporting tools, such as Firebase Crashlytics, to identify and fix stability issues.
  • Cloud storage or sync providers only in Apps with cloud-backup features.
  • Advertising networks, such as Google AdMob, only in free, ad-supported Apps.

4.3 Google Play Services

As the distribution platform for our Apps, Google Play may collect device and app-level data independently, governed by Google's own Privacy Policy.

4.4 Android System Backup

Android's Auto Backup feature, a system-level service, may back up App data to your Google account. This is encrypted and managed by Google and Android OS, not by Marcus Labs. You can disable Auto Backup per app or globally in your Android system settings.

4.5 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will provide notice of any such change via an updated Privacy Policy posted on the Play Store.

4.6 Legal Disclosure

We may disclose personal information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Marcus Labs, our users, or the public. We will notify affected users where legally permitted.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy.

  • Account data is retained for the duration of your active account. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize associated personal data within 30 days, unless retention is required by law.
  • App usage and analytics data is retained in aggregate form for up to 24 months.
  • Crash and error logs are retained for up to 90 days.
  • Support correspondence is retained for up to 2 years.
  • Data stored solely on your device is retained until you delete it within the App or uninstall the App.
  • If you uninstall an App, locally stored data is removed from your device. Cloud-backed data, if applicable, may persist in your Google account and can be managed through your Google account settings.

6. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. Our measures include:

  • Data encryption in transit using HTTPS/TLS for all network communications.
  • On-device data stored in Android's application sandbox, inaccessible to other apps.
  • Access to any backend systems restricted to authorized Marcus Labs personnel.
  • Regular review of our data collection and storage practices.
  • No security system is entirely impenetrable. In the event of a data breach that poses a significant risk to your rights, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, including using a strong screen lock and keeping your Android OS up to date.

7. Your Rights and Controls

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: You may correct inaccurate data directly within the App or by contacting us.
  • Right to Deletion: You may request that we delete your personal data.
  • Right to Portability: You may request your data in a structured, machine-readable format where technically feasible.
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You may request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to Object: You may object to processing based on legitimate interest or for direct marketing purposes.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
  • If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, these rights are guaranteed under the GDPR and UK GDPR. If you are a California resident, you have similar rights under the CCPA/CPRA.

7.1 Advertising Controls

You can opt out of interest-based advertising by resetting or opting out of your Google Advertising ID in your Android device settings under Privacy > Ads. You can also use the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool.

7.2 Location Access

You can revoke location permissions for any App at any time via Android Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Permissions.

8. Children's Privacy

8.1 Apps Not Directed at Children

For Apps in our portfolio that are not directed at children under the age of 13, or 16 in the EEA, we do not knowingly collect personal information from such children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal data without verifiable parental consent, we will promptly delete that information from our records.

8.2 Apps Directed at or Used by Children

Some Marcus Labs Apps are designed for or may be used by children under 13. For those Apps, we comply with COPPA, Google Play Families Policy, and applicable international regulations. Specifically:

  • We do not serve behavioral or interest-based advertisements in child-directed Apps.
  • We do not collect persistent device identifiers from child-directed Apps for advertising purposes.
  • We do not collect more personal information from children than is reasonably necessary to provide the App's features.
  • Where account creation is required in a child-directed App, we obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from users under 13.
  • Any analytics used in child-directed Apps are configured to prevent collection of personally identifiable information.

8.3 Parental Rights

Parents or legal guardians of children who have used our Apps may contact us to review personal information collected from their child, request deletion of that information, or refuse further collection or use. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our Apps, applicable law, or our data practices. When we make changes:

  • The updated policy will be published on the Google Play Store listing for each App and at our developer website.
  • The Last Updated date at the top of this document will be revised.
  • For material changes, we will provide in-App notice or, where we have your email address, notify you by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
  • Your continued use of any Marcus Labs App after the effective date of a revised policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree to the revised policy, you should discontinue use of the relevant App.

When submitting a data rights request, please specify the App name, the nature of your request, and enough identifying information for us to locate your data, such as registered email address or username. We may request additional verification before processing deletion or access requests.
